Lake Mendota is central to the history and campus life of University of Wisconsin - Madison. This sculpture is based on an 1897 hydrographic map of Lake Mendota produced by the University civil engineering students. LEDs shining into the acrylic from behind cause the sculpture to glow, and it is recessed into the wall .
