Aristotle Georgiades: My work is often based on the history and economics of the community, incorporating architectural elements and images of tools, furniture, and other utilitarian objects. I work in wood and mixed media, and most of my work is human-scale or larger. I am motivated in the search for the "American Dream", both as an ideal and as the real experience of my family who immigrated to the United States seeking a better life. My work blends a rigorous attention to craft with an interest in these social and cultural concerns.
Gail Simpson: I have been using the format of decorative wrought iron in my sculpture to investigate the relationship between architecture and the body, and notions about public and private space. My mixed-media sculptural work is somewhat figurative and combines cast and constructed forms to create an image of the self that is both physical and metaphorical. In my functional work, I treat the project as a problem in site-specific design, responding to visual information about the existing structures and patterns of use.
